Co-Founder, now Managing Director of Sound Box Creations Ltd

Thermionic Culture Ltd was founded back in 1998 by Vic Keary and Jon Bailes with Jon’s extensive manufacturing skills proving the perfect foil to Vic’s highly innovative product ideas and designs.  When the company started, it really was a tiny cottage (or should that be shed?) industry with Vic and Jon each clocking up numerous hours working on early models in sheds at the bottom of their respective gardens! As both Director and Company Secretary at the time, Jon still found himself silk-screening all the early Phoenix front panels by hand!

These days, Jon – who’s still a Thermionic Culture shareholder – runs his own company Sound Box Creations Ltd which, in turn, operates as an engineering solutions company to Thermionic and other pro-audio companies.  Responsibilities include turning Vic's circuit ideas and designs into all aspects of the physical product including designing and populating all of Thermionic’s Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), designing the look and feel of all new products, as well as building particular batches of units from start-to-finish.

Jon’s favourite design innovation for Thermionic was the design of the front panel of the Little Bustard with its iconic multi-coloured LED eyes!

Musically, Jon’s current fave artists include Bring Me The Horizon, Foo Fighters, Metallica and Queens Of The Stone Age.
